Announcing My New Analyst Position With Frost & Sullivan

Frostlogo I'm happy to announce that in addition to my current role at StreamingMedia.com, I have joined Frost & Sullivan as a principal analyst for their digital media practice. Joining Frost is a nice fit for me as they are working on a lot of custom research for clients and also will be putting out many research reports this year that have to do with many different segments of the entire eco-system for online video. Frost already has a large team of digital media analysts and my goal is to strengthen their coverage and expertise specifically in the online video market.

My new role will also give me more exposure and insight into the video market as it pertains to cable head-ends, hardware manufactures and traditional broadcast products and services which I have not previously covered in detail. In addition, Frost and StreamingMedia.com will be teaming up to generate more research data for the industry and we are already working on our first report on the CDN market. StreamingMedia.com has the ability to collect a lot of market data but we don't have the resources to compile and analyze all the data, which is where Frost comes in.

Apart from the reports below that Frost is scheduled to deliver this year, they will also be publishing Market Insights on CDN issues and Web 2.0 related topics.

  • World Video Server Market
  • World Video Encoding Market
  • World Streaming Platforms Market
  • World Content Delivery Network Market
  • World Nonlinear Editing Systems Market
  • World Dynamic Publishing Market Insight
  • World Animation Software Market
  • World Enterprise Content Management Market
  • World Dynamic Publishing Market
  • World Digital Asset Management Market
  • World Digital Rights Management Market
  • World Digital Media Storage Market
  • World Marketing Process Optimization Market
  • World Broadcast Switcher Market
  • World Broadcast Server Market
  • World Cable Sever Market
  • World IPTV Server Market
  • World Presentation Assembly and Management Solutions Market

As anyone who has been reading my blog for a while knows, I think we need a lot more data on many, many segments of the online video market. For an industry that is now over ten years old, there are still too many questions pertaining to market sizes, opportunities and revenue across so many different products and services in the eco-system. My goal is to help Frost to be the leader in generating reliable data and metrics that our industry can rely on to help this industry grow.

Nice work Dan! Congrats!

Dan, way to go, Frost & Sullivan are a world class organization and it's great to see them placing more focus on this market space with an expert in the field!

Dan, that sounds like an excellent fit. Now maybe the industry can get some data from someone we trust. Good for Frost for making this market a priority. Too many analysts don't even focus on the online video industry and only cover it as part of some other product they cover like software or something unrelated. I'd be glad to see more specific numbers on this market.

Wow, nice move Dan! Congrats Dan & Frost & Sullivan.

Never been to your blog before today. The first thing I read was what you wrote about the CDN market dated..August 13, 2007.

"When I asked where those numbers came from, the said from a Frost & Sullivan report on CDNs and they included a slide in their presentation showing the data.I've see this data before from the Frost & Sullivan report as many use it, but it is just plain wrong. "

Well now I guess you can correct their errors.

Hi Shahan, after I posted that about the Frost CDN report, they were quick to contact me and asked for my feedback on the how the report could be better, what additional data it could include and how they could use metrics that would be more accurate in the market. That is what really attracted me to them. They wanted to improve the report and have a deeper level of knowledge on the subject. Most research houses just want to argue with you and say how their data is perfect and not really allow anyone to challenge it. Frost did the opposite, which in my eyes shows real interest of them wanting to be the best at covering this subject.

Dan,

I'd reconsider working for Frost & Sullivan. You are unaware that their "research" practices are as unprofessional as the management behind it.

You are welcome to your opinion, but I don't share your views. Before I went with Frost I considered offers from many of the other large and small research firms and after speaking with numerous Frost customers in the digital media practice, heard nothing but good results. Frost has over 1,700 employees worldwide and many research divisions, so by all means, I don't know everyone in the company, but the folks I work with in the digital media practice are a group I am happy to be working with.

Hey Dan,

This sounds like a great step for both you and the Streaming Media Industry! Do us proud and get us better notice...and more accurate forecasts!

Barry

Congratulations Dan! I'm really glad to hear of your position with Frost & Sullivan and wish you all the best. Looking forward to more of your insights on the business of video!

Larry

Congratulations!!!

All the best.

Happy to say to all that Frost & Sullivan is focusing more than ever on the CDN Space, Transcoding and Encoding Space and happy Dan is on board to provide the real Demand side perspective. I cannot wait to see the research and have Frost & Sullivan provide some custom consulting to companies in our market.
