Confirmed: Google Rumor False, Not Acquiring Brightcove

I received a call from one of the parties involved in the Google/Brightcove rumor who would not talk on record but confirmed with me that the rumor that Google is buying Brightcove is in fact false. I won't say which side, Google or Brightcove the employee is from, but it's someone I trust.

Just goes to show you how much people love rumors with all the coverage this got. While I don't know who Mark Glaser's contact was that told him of the rumor, and don't plan to ask him since he won't be able to say anyway, it's given Brightcove and Google a lot of PR today.

All it took was one whisper...in some deep dark corner of Twitter. Goes back to your post earlier about Twitter: de-centralized information-mongering, sans any quality filters, is hardly a recipe for successful new media journalism.

Hi Dan - Thanks for clearing up the wild rumor. Now, let's spend a bit of quality time talking about a real deal - Adobe buys Omniture - a high-end, highly regarded web analytics firm.

It certainly shows the importance of tracking results. Go to my blog post to read about the meaning and the implications.

Should have use twitzee http://www.twitzee.com for this kind of stuff

It didn't make sense when I heard this. Brightcove would be far more expensive than newer players that have more modern and easier to use (and less expensive) platforms. Companies like Ooyala and Delve Networks come to mind. Brightcove has some nice media company customers as an early player but there's a lot of unhappy Brightcove customers out there. Google doesn't need to buy relationships and market presence for something like this.

Anyway, that's a real fact, people indeed, love the rumors, and the buying of brightcove was a huge one!!
