Free Product Giveaway: Roku HD-XR Digital Video Player
The drawing is now closed. Last month Roku announced the launch of their new Channel Store and while I got hands on with the offering, I didn't have time to write up a review since I was at the Streaming Media West show. Winner: Josh B. from New York, NY.
In celebration of the launch, the nice folks over at Roku are letting me give away one Roku HD-XR unit to a reader of my blog. All you have to do is leave one comment on this post on why you want the Roku unit. Make sure you use your real name and a valid e-mail address and I'll pick one lucky user at random at the end of the month. on December 14th. A big thanks to Roku for the gear and for making a really kick-ass player, one of my favorite devices on the market today.

I really like the addition of 802.11n. This would make a nice addition to my home setup.

I'd like a Roku to be able to maximize use of my Netflix membership with ease. I've also heard great things about the new video channels that Roku makes available via its player.

I would like to try this product so I can recomend it to my friends!
Right now I always recomend that they go buy an Xbox 360 (since they are so cheap) for their video streaming needs but this looks like a great alternative!

I've been contemplating pulling the trigger on a Roku device for a while now... free would be even better!

Been eyeing one of these as my wife and I dropped cable a year ago and I'm always looking for easier ways to get content to the TV.

I'd love to have a Roku to watch online video on my TV.

I used to own one of Roku's Photobridge and it was way ahead of its time. They dropped out of the market so I'm not surprised to see them coming back so strong, sort of a dark horse. Good for them!

Would love to get access to streaming media via the Roku HD-XR.

my 60" tv is no where near my router and i would have to run a cat 5 cable through my attic to pick up any sort of streaming media (not to mention i need a box to connect to). the Roku HD-XR would be ideal, as i could take full advantage of the wi-fi feature of the unit. also, as a wi-fi unit, i would not be confined to which tv i would want to use it with, so i could easily move it from room to room. i would use it to stream online media (netflix, youtube, hulu) and could stream photos and video from my hard drive, giving me the opportunity to view the home movies i'm editing on something larger than my 19" lcd, to get the full effect of the finished video.

I would love to have a Roku unit to be able to stream video to my TV. Currently we're relegated to watching such content on the computer, which is not as comfortable to watch!

This would be a great XMAS gift for my GF who uses my netflix account to watch movies on her PC, and could utilize the 46 inch Sony 1080p LCD in her living room instead of the 15inch monitor that she is using now on her desktop.

D'oh! I forgot to use my real name. Posting again:
I am too impatient (and too moody) to wait for movies to arrive in the mail. I want to watch what I want to watch the instant I want to watch it! I think I need the Roku :)
Thanks.

I got one right after they first made them available but gave it away once I got my TiVo HD. Now they've added so much it's such a great little device. Wish I still had mine.

I would take the RoKu box and start pushing it in Canada. We can't get Netflix, Hulu or many of the US stations because of Geofencing but i can get bell's TMNonline and would work to get that up and running on the RoKu.

I have heard a lot about the Roku DVP, particuarly since the release of the Channel Store. I am a fan of Revision3, Pandora and Netflix, and would love to make the Roku HD-XR the newest device in my media room, which is at the opposite end of my house. The support for 802.11n in the HD-XR model would be perfect considering the distance. Keeping my fingers crossed....

Roku looks like it now has a winning strategy. I'd love to be an early adopter and a supporter.

I want one simply because I like gadgets and need another device to hook to my TV. You can't have too many!

I really like the Roku HD-XR because of its wifi streaming capability, particularly wifi-n. 802.11g is just too slow to stream HD videos over. My router is in another part of the house, but I do not currently have any HD output capable device to output to my LCD TV except my laptop. And leaving it connected to the TV is a messy affair. Not even a PS3 has wifi-N.
The awesome variety of audio outputs available is another plus point.
All those HD videos and the bluray drive in my PC just a floor away (near the router) and no way to stream them to my TV :'( sob..

I think Roku is really, really cool. Small, inexpensive, but potentially very powerful. I am excited at the addition of the Channel Store that will bring a lot more content to the platform.
