Google Buys Online Video Platform Provider Episodic
This morning, San Francisco based Episodic announced via their website that they have been acquired by Google. Terms of the deal have not yet been announced and I will update this post if I hear how much Google valued the company at. While Episodic had been operating in the market for a few years, they were a small player and it's clear that this was a technology acquisition on Google's part. I've reached out to Episodic's CEO and will update the post if I hear back.
Updated: I heard back from Episodic's CEO Noam Lovinsky who sent over an email stating that, "I don't have any additional info to share right now". The email looks to be a prepared email they are sending out to anyone who asks about the deal, which comes as no surprise considering it involves Google.

So how does Episodic and Youtube platforms (there must be some infrastructure at Youtube when they bought it,) come together. Or is this Google's preparation to pull together advertising (prior acquisition), broadcast video (through Episodic) and web (youtube eyeballs)

So is Google going to continue the Episodic business model or just take the tech tools and run?

That's an oxymoron there doesn't appear to have been an Episodic business model, hence this early exit to Google. Based on the TechCrunch article they are going to put these tools into YouTube.

I doubt there was much of a $$$ windfall here for the Episodic folks. It seems like purely a technology play, that presumably would expand the monetization options on Youtube - paywall, subscription, where Google needs to increase ROI. .
