Free Giveaway: Win A New Roku XDS Streaming Box

Xds-home-small Last week Roku announced new boxes and after using the Roku XDS for a week, outside of a gaming console, Roku is still my favorite box in the market for video streaming and will soon have support for Hulu Plus. I've bought a top-of-the-line model, the Roku XDS and will be giving it away to one lucky reader of my blog. To enter the drawing, all you have to do is leave one comment on this post and make sure you submit the comment with a valid email address. The drawing is open to anyone with a mailing address in the U.S. or Canada and the winner will be selected at random on October 11th. Good luck!

Is it still better than a Boxee Box?

Always been curious about the roku but if the core strength (netflix streaming) is ubiquitous why should I get excited? I must admit that the high def capability (1080p) is interesting but I'd have to see it before I'd be convinced to buy.

I feel like Boxee is far more competitive, it works over multiple platforms, the program is capable of reading more file types, and with the addition of the "add to boxee" browser plug in you can basically pull whatever streaming media you want from the web onto your television.

I'm curious to see how well these new boxes compare to the new apple tv.

Debating on a Roku vs. Boxee Box.
I was all about Boxee until learning about the XDS last week.

Yeah! Roku is THE DVP to beat! Can't wait to get my hands on one!

We've held off getting cable or satellite in our home, prefering multi-channel over the air DTV and online content. It seems the Hulu offering over Roku is something we'd be interested in. To not have to fool with a PC is a big plus.

It will be interesting to see which digital media streaming device takes off the most this fall - GoogleTV, Apple TV, the Boxee Box, or the Roku devices.

I've been itching to try out one of these things...glad to have my name in the hat for this one.

I finally bit the bullet and got a very pricey cable package to go with the new TV. Initially I was pretty excited about Apple TV, but the 720p res and focus on iTunes content is a bit of a turn-off. Hulu + Netflix on a box like this sounds great, but there's still no live sports solution that makes for a watchable experience (so cable it is until the Super Bowl, at least).

Though it'd be great to get the Roku device being offered! Thanks for the opportunity!

Great! The USB port will eliminate a box from on top of the TV - an excellent add-on.

We use our Roku all the time. The picture is clear enough for me.

I really want one of these!

My question is regarding audio playback. Can I hook up my USB drive with 20,000 songs on it and access my collection in an intelligent manner using the software already installed, or is this a future promise from Roku? Screenshots anyone?

the addition of Hulu/Hulu + could make Roku a real cable killer.

I'm tired of cable - I can't wait to get the Roku and check it out!

Keep up the great reporting/blogging!

I've been reading about this a lot more recently. It would be great to win and try it out.

Looking forward to cutting the cable. This will be my second time doing so. The first time around my AppleTV with Boxee broke down.

This would get me to buy one. I have been eying them for awhile.

I am thoroughly sick of paying big bucks for cable but still am unable to pick and choose the "package" of channels I actually want to use. Am not up on the latest technology but am very interested to find an alternative to the big cable rip-off.

Wouldn't mind trying one out.

Just cancelled my very pricey cable and moving to streaming (Netflix and Hulu+). Been looking at the Roku boxes but was holding off to see who Hulu would partner with next. Guess its time to get the box :)

I hope these devices become more and more main stream - I cut out cable/satellite this year and survive on Hulu and rabbit ears.
